LPL is losing too much compared to LCK in the past few years
For gamers watching Esports League, LPL and LCK are always considered rivals and fierce competition in international tournaments. However, in the past 2 years, the LPL representatives have been serious short of breath compared to the LCK side in terms of achievement. It should be known that the last time LPL has the international title was from MSI 2023 with the championship of JDG. After that, T1 won both the title of Worlds 2023 and 2024 and Gen.G also pocketed the MSI 2024 championship.
LCK in recent years has had an outstanding international competition compared to LPL
It was this achievement that made the LPL face many difficulties, even losing confidence in the audience. The most obvious is that the LPL tournament decreases the number of followers in both spring and summer. Next is the fact that a series of teams no longer receive funding and face the risk of bankruptcy or be expelled from LPL in the upcoming season.
Doinb revealed the “LPL Renaissance” plan of the tournament organizers
Facing such difficult situation, the BTC LPL forced to have strong measures to reform and improve the competitiveness of the tournament. During his recent streaming, Doinb revealed that the BTC tournament was seeking to eliminate a series of weak teams both in terms of achievement and business. The goal is to learn the LCK tournament model when only about 10 really quality teams.
LPL in the summer 2024 has 17 teams attending but only a few teams are of real quality
“The BTC LPL is looking to eliminate weak teams next season to increase the strength of the region and further to win the World Championship. Want to eliminate such teams ” – Doinb shared.
Former World Worlds 2019 revealed that the LPL BTC is planning to eliminate a series of weak teams and towards the 10 -team model similar to LCK
Indeed in recent years, LPL is having a “surplus crisis” when they own 17 teams in their tournament. However, the really quality teams are only around in some familiar names such as BLG, WBG, TES, LNG or JDG. Even when names like Al or FPX have caused surprises, it is also very small contribution to the number of huge teams remaining LPL.
There are too many weak teams in LPL, making the competition environment lack of competition and leading to defeats in the international tournament.
Obviously, in such a lack of competitive environment, the power of LPL teams will be impaired with a short breath compared to the LCK side. Therefore, the plan to cut the number of teams participating in the tournament of the BTC LPL to about 10 teams (similar to LCK) is considered a reasonable plan. This may increase the competitiveness of LPL representatives and contribute to this tournament to become more attractive. Hopefully this plan will work and help LPL come back and compete fairly with LCK in the upcoming 2025 season.
